Hospitality First Responder Training
The South Australian Ambulance Service and Drug & Alcohol Services South Australia, in partnership with the hospitality sector, have developed the Hospitality First Responder Training program.
The training enables staff to make an appropriate first response to patrons of licensed venues who may experience a medical emergency due to alcohol and/or other drug use, trauma or collapse.
Program content has been developed in response to the needs and interests of the hospitality industry and from information on ambulance callouts to licensed premises.
Who, how long, where, how much....
Licensee, managers, bar/waiting staff and crowd controllers should all consider undertaking the training.
Training is undertaken in one session of two and a half hours.
Training should be conducted in the workplace where a medical emergency could occur eg. the front bar, dining room, foyer etc
Training costs $350 which covers one training session for a maximum of 12 people, including handouts. There may be an additional cost to cover the cost of travel to regional areas.
Hospitality First Responder Training is voluntary. However, providing staff with the skills to know how to make an appropriate first response to a medical emergency should be considered a wise risk management strategy.
